International Women’s Day is today, March 8th, and is focused on inspiring women around the world and celebrating their achievements. We wanted to reach out and recognize all the incredible, hardworking women in our community.
International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over 100 years, and each year a theme is chosen. This year, the international theme chosen by the United Nations is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality," highlighting gender gaps in STEM education and careers — and calling attention to the online harassment many women face. International Women's Day is also a reminder of the long road ahead.
Canada’s theme for 2019 is Every Woman Counts. It’s a reminder that all women, from all ages and walks of life, have a place in every aspect of Canadian society, including in the economic, social and democratic spheres. We are lucky to live in a community where strong leadership by women in every field is accepted and celebrated. As two nationally top-ranked sales representatives, we support any woman striving to achieve their goals and trying to make a difference. We also remember that when you do achieve success, it is also just as important to give back to the community that helped you and lend a hand to others who need it.
We would personally like to share our appreciation and respect for our mother, Joan Rocca, who impacted our lives in ways words could never express. She was a strong loving woman committed to family, her community, her faith and passions. She made us into the women we are today, instilling in us the passion to strive to the top and make all our dreams come true.
Our mother passed away from Ovarian Cancer in 2009. Since then, we have celebrated her and carried on her memory through various Ovarian Cancer projects throughout the community to help give support to other women suffering from the disease. Our mother was an incredible woman and she continues to make an impact on our lives each and every day.
We are very fortunate to live in a country where there are no restrictions to what women can do, or what we can achieve. We invite you to reach out to the special women in your life who have made an impact on you, and make your appreciation known!
