2025 was a pivotal year in interior design, where comfort, texture, and personal expression came to the forefront. Designers and homeowners alike moved beyond cold minimalism toward spaces that feel lived-in, soulful, and intentional — a direct response to years of stark, neutral-dominated design.

1. Warm, Earthy Color & Rich Tones

Warm neutrals and earthy hues defined many interiors this year. Think terracotta, olive, clay, and warm metallics blended to bring warmth and depth to spaces. These tones created a cozy, grounded atmosphere that feels both modern and timeless.

2. Blending Nostalgia with Modern Influence

Retro elements made a strong comeback in 2025 — not just in small accents, but as celebrated motifs across interiors:

  • Reimagined Classic Decor: Designers revived elements like mirrored accents and tactile fabrics (e.g., chintz, needlepoint, lace) with a contemporary twist.

  • Eclectic Retro Pieces: Vintage pieces mixed with modern furnishings added character and a sense of history to rooms.

These brought personality and individuality to spaces, helping them feel curated rather than mass-produced.

3. Textures & Tactility

Texture was everywhere in 2025 — from heavily scored wood grains and boucle upholstery to washed linens and handcrafted surfaces. Natural, imperfect finishes were beloved because they bring warmth and sensory depth to interiors.

4. Soft Minimalism & Sensory Design

Minimalism didn’t disappear — it simply evolved. “Soft minimalism” emerged as a gentler, more human take on the style, blending clear lines with warm tones, rounded forms, and tactile textiles. The result? Clean but cozy spaces.

Similarly, designers emphasized multi-sensory design, creating homes that appeal not just visually but to sound, touch, and smell — integrating sound-absorbing textiles, fragrant plants, and richly textured surfaces into everyday spaces.

5. Personal Expression Over Sterile Uniformity

Across the board, designers moved away from overly coordinated, cookie-cutter interiors. Instead, spaces became unique reflections of personality — mixing styles, eras, and finishes in creative and meaningful ways.

Interior Design Predictions for 2026

As we move into 2026, interior design is expected to become even more expressive, layered, and personality-driven. Color will play a bigger role than ever, with designers leaning into bold, saturated hues and immersive “color-drenched” rooms that create mood and impact. Earthy palettes will remain popular but with added richness — deeper greens, warm ochres, and complex neutrals paired with contrast and pattern. Expect a subtle return of glamour as well, with modern Art Deco influences, sculptural forms, and statement lighting becoming key focal points throughout the home.

At the same time, comfort and human-centered design will continue to guide interiors. Homes will feel softer, warmer, and more intentional, with an emphasis on texture, natural materials, and lighting that enhances both function and atmosphere. Sustainability and longevity will remain priorities, encouraging thoughtful material choices and timeless design over fast trends. In 2026, interiors won’t just be designed to look beautiful — they’ll be designed to feel good to live in.
