School’s Out for Summer – Let’s Keep Our Kids Safe & Smiling! 

It’s that time of year again—school’s out and summer has officially arrived! As kids swap their backpacks for bikes and their pencils for popsicles, our neighbourhoods come alive with the joyful sounds of summer break. Whether they’re walking to the park, riding scooters down the sidewalk, or playing a spontaneous game of tag in the front yard, kids are out and about—and it’s up to all of us to help keep them safe.

Safety First on the Roads 

With more children outside during the day, now is a great time to slow down and stay alert behind the wheel. Please take extra care when driving through residential streets, near parks, and around local community centres. Kids can be unpredictable—darting out after a ball or forgetting to look both ways—so let’s give them the space and time they need to play safely.

A few friendly reminders:

• Observe posted speed limits, especially in neighbourhood zones.
  

• Keep your eyes on the road—no texting or distractions.
  

• Watch for kids at crosswalks, intersections, and driveways.
  

• Be especially cautious backing out of driveways or parking spots.
  

Out and About – Public Safety Tips for Parents and Caregivers 

Whether you're heading to the splash pad, beach, or the local farmers’ market, a few small steps can make a big difference in keeping summer fun and safe:

• Stay hydrated and pack sunscreen and hats—UV rays are no joke.
  

• Set meeting points in busy places in case you get separated.
  

• Teach kids to stay within sight and check in regularly.
  

• Remind them about “stranger danger” in a calm and empowering way.
  

• Use helmets and protective gear when biking, skateboarding, or rollerblading.
